University of Arizona Names James (Jim) L. Powell as Big 12 Faculty Recognition Program Nominee for 2024
The University of Arizona recently awarded James (Jim) L. Powell, economics department head and professor of economics in the Eller College of Management, with a nomination for the Big 12 Faculty Recognition Program.
"Jim's nomination is a testament to his outstanding contributions to our college. His dedication and impact make this honor truly well-deserved," says Karthik Kannan, dean and Halle Chair in Leadership. "The Eller College and the entire university benefit immensely from his exemplary leadership and positive influence."
The Big 12 Faculty Recognition Program recognizes outstanding faculty at Big 12 institutions who have excelled in areas of innovation and research on their campus. These faculty members should represent and reflect all the best attributes that make a college campus a bastion for learning and growth. A byproduct of the award allows the conference to highlight the incredible work, diversity of research breakthroughs and educational opportunities afforded to students attending Big 12 institutions and help attract future students.
“Your transformative work in the field of econometrics has reshaped how economists have approached complex economic relationships. Your numerous awards and elections to prestigious societies are a testament to the impact of your work. Beyond your research accomplishments, you have demonstrated exceptional leadership as head of the Department of Economics, providing a steady hand and the necessary clear vision,” University of Arizona President, Robert C. Robbins said in a letter to Powell. “You are a truly outstanding faculty member, and I am proud to see you recognized as the University of Arizona’s nominee for this award.”
To qualify for this award, an individual must be a full-time faculty member at a Big 12 institution, have taught at the current institution for a minimum of two years and be tenured or on tenure track. Nominees are then evaluated by the University of Arizona’s Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and forwarded to the president for final approval.
