Internship Spotlight – Claire Woods, Altria

Claire Woods is a Marketing and Business Management major set to graduate in May of 2019.  She has recently accepted a position at Altria as a Territory Sales Manager in Denver, Colorado.

How did you find this position?

I met the company at the Eller Expo fall of 2017 and I completed a summer internship with them the summer of 2018.

Tell us about the process of interviewing with this company.

The process first began with an informal dinner to get to know some employees and other applicants. Then, I completed a virtual interview through Hirevue. After the video interview, there was an in-person interview which consisted of a case study and behavioral questions. I was given a half hour to read a case study and take notes. Once the 30 minutes was up, I was call in and asked questions about my analysis of the case, which lasted about an hour. The last 30 was designated for behavioral questions.

What previous experience have you had that you think contributed to your success securing this position?

I think that my campus involvement and leadership experience contributed greatly to securing this position. I was highly involved with my sorority, Eller, and UA at large. With these experiences, I was able to acquire skills that prepared me for challenges I would similarly face within this position.

What are you most looking forward to about your position/company?

I am very excited to move to Denver, Colorado and continue working alongside an incredible team of leaders. The people I have met through the company are so innovative and passionate, and they inspire to always work harder.

Any word of advice you could give to your fellow Eller Students?

I advise all Eller students to really take advantage of the plethora of resources Eller has to offer. Our Professional Development Center is filled with stellar faculty who are eager to help Eller students. Between the staff and alumni, students have everything they need to succeed.
