Internship Spotlight – Nina Timpone, Flix Premiere

Image

Nina Timpone is a Business Administration major and she will be graduating in May 2019. This summer, she interned for Flix Premiere as a Screener in Beverly Hills, California.

How did you get this internship? I reached out to my Academic Advisor/Career Coach for help to find an internship that would suit me.  She suggested a few different companies for me to apply for.  I applied for all of them to see if I would receive an opportunity.  Flix Premiere reached out to me and I had a phone interview with them.

What was a typical day like? A typical day for me was to provide a key role in screening new movie premieres before Premiere Night and General Release, to deliver a critic’s opinions that may be used by Flix Premiere in its promotion of any title about the movie for cross debate among the screening team, to attend a weekly screening team meeting, to discuss, evaluate and decide what movies premiere on the Flix Premiere platform.

What was your favorite part of the experience? My favorite part about this experience was being able to interact with students from other schools as well as upper management.  Since this internship was remote and I worked from home, it enabled me to have flexibility while completing 18 units this summer.

What did you find most challenging about your internship? The most challenging thing about this internship was that some films were more graphic than I would have chosen to see.  Another thing that was challenging was the critique of these different films I viewed.

What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar internship? Some of the things I recommend for students searching for a similar internship would be to begin their search early and apply to many different entertainment companies.  They should keep an open mind and be selective in the company they choose.

How did Eller prepare you for your internship? Being an online student has helped me communicate more efficiently.  Also, working in groups online has helped me to collaborate as a team player.  My BCOM 314R class helped me to be a better speaker and be more confident.

Did your internship employer provide housing or transportation assistance? No, my employer did not provide any housing or transportation assistance.

Anything else you would like to share about your internship experience? I really enjoyed this experience and it has helped me decide what I want to pursue in the future.  I hope by the end of Spring 2019 to be employed in the entertainment industry.
