Externship Spotlight – Corbin Schiffli, Leidos

Corbin Schiffli is a Pre-Business major expected to graduate in the spring of 2021.  This winter break he had an externship with Leidos in Tucson, Arizona.

Please provide a brief description of what you did during your externship:

During my externship at Leidos I got the chance to not only witness the process of work that goes on inside a corporate accounting team, but get advice and detailed explanations about each department, and see what methods they use to be efficient in the work place.

Why did you want to do this externship?

I wanted to do this externship to not only build my resume but get an inside look at what actually goes on within a large company, and see the culture of the work place.

Please describe your externship experience:

My externship program was a half day spent with the accounting team at Leidos.  This company is very teamwork oriented, and we got to meet each individual team and receive advise and a detailed description of what tasks they need to accomplish on a daily basis.  Many of the employees were Eller graduates which really opened my eyes to what opportunities may come in the future.

What did you learn as a result of this externship?

I learned a lot about how each team worked together to accomplish challenging tasks as accountants, and also the opportunities that were open to students such as internships and job positions.

Anything else you would like to share about your experience?

I would like to recommend every student who is given a chance to apply for an externship to take it and go in open-minded and ready to ask questions.  There is no reason to be nervous as the company is there to help students learn more about the working world.  Don’t forget to send thank you’s!
