Internship Spotlight: Jeffrey Wright, EY

Jeffrey Wright is an Accounting, MIS, and Entrepreneurship major graduating in the spring of 2022.  This summer he interned with EY as a Technology Risk Consultant in Denver, Colorado.

What was the process for getting this internship, job, or summer experience?

I applied for the position in spring of 2020. The application process was three rounds, first a recorded interview, then two Zoom calls. The Zoom calls were with different individuals who worked within the Technology Risk practice at the Denver EY office.  The process was intended to be in-person but it quickly became apparent that it online interviews would have to suffice.

What was a typical day like?

A typical day at the office (which I was in-person for!) consisted of working alongside seniors on different projects and the multitude of tasks that came with them. I worked mainly on audit projects doing internal and external audit work. 8 hours of work was expected each day and constant communication between myself and those on my team. It was common to sit on calls with clients and going through walkthrough documentation.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part of the experience was when partners from around the country flew in for meetings with the C-Suite of a client I had been working on. We all met in the Denver Tech Center office and went through the meeting topics for the upcoming day. I also had the time-tested intern honor of squaring away lunch for the team (which hadn't been together in the same room in over a year!). It was a fun day meeting everyone in the office together and we capped it off by going to dinner together as a team.

How did Eller prepare you for this experience?

Eller's accounting courses as well as MIS experience connected fantastically for my work. I took an audit course in Spring 2021 and it translated nearly verbatim to a lot of the work I was doing for EY. The classwork is a lot more theory-based (which makes sense), but it helped me understand the purpose of the work I was doing for the client.
