Internship Spotlight: Kate Martin, Blackstone

Kate Martin '23 BSBA (Finance and Law) was a Private Credit Analyst Intern at Blackstone in New York City, New York.

What was the process of getting this internship, job, or summer experience?

I began recruiting for this internship in January of my sophomore year with help from the Wall Street Scholars Program.

What was a typical day like?

On a typical day I would get to the office at 8:15, catch up on the news and go over my emails.  The rest of the day I would spend working on deals supporting my team with Powerpoint and Excel work and taking notes on client calls.  I left the office after dinner between 8:30 and 11:00 ready to go to bed and repeat the next day.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part of the experience was meeting talented people from all over the country and investing in large transactions at a world-class firm.

If you worked on a big project, please describe it below:

My most exciting project was a billion dollar buyout deal where I helped with the investment process.

What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar experience, or advice for future students to be successful?

I advise students looking to get into this space to reach out to peers working in the industry to learn more about the options available to them.  The sky's the limit when you put your heart into it.

How did Eller Prepare you for this experience?

The Wall Street Scholars Program prepared me thoroughly for this experience by teaching me the fundamentals of finance, valuation, financial modeling, and presentation skills.  I attribute my success this summer largely to the support and guidance of this program.
