Ella Wolters '25 BSBA (Management Information Systems & Marketing) was a MLB Scout Liaison and Assistant GM at Wareham Gatemen - Cape Cod Baseball League in Wareham, MA.

What was the process for getting this internship, job, or summer experience?

My connection from working with Arizona Baseball was what led me to the Cape Cod League. Our staff has a connection with a few of the coaches that volunteer there over the summer, so they were able to connect me. From there I submitted an application and interviewed with the president of our team.

What was a typical day like?

Every morning I would post our starting pitchers and game time times on Twitter so the scouts would know which game to prioritize. I would get to the baseball field mid-afternoon. Upon arrival I would print team rosters and lineups for the day. Shortly after the scouts would start to arrive, and I would talk to each of them about our players, their stats, and what they had been working on over the summer. I'd spend any free time that I had talking with the players and coaches, helping out wherever I could. During the game I would either converse with the scouts or sit in the dugout and chart pitches for our coach. After the game I would work with the other interns to analyze the data that we had received from the TrackMan system from that nights game.

What was your favorite part of the experience?

My favorite part of the experience was when I had the opportunity to direct operations for one of the All Star teams at the 100th annual All Star Game. I managed the West Division team and made sure that all game day operations ran smoothly. It was such a special day that I was honored to be apart of.

What advice do you have for other students looking for a similar experience, or advice for future students to be successful?

The sports world is tough to break into so don't be discouraged. Take every opportunity you can to get involved in anything related to athletics. Reach out and get to know the people around you that work in the industry since connections are how you'll receive potential experiences.

Did you feel supported by the company or organization you worked with?

I felt very included by my company and organization. Being a woman in sports can be intimidating, but with a number of other women working for my team and throughout the whole league, it was easy to feel like I belonged.
