On March 21, the University of Arizona Eller College of Management, Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business, and Northern Arizona University W.A. Franke College of Business came together for the second annual Arizona Statewide Business School Case Competition (ASBCC).

The ASBCC was established in the fall of 2022, when the deans of the three business schools envisioned an event that would unite students rather than pit them against each other. "We wanted to create a competition that brings students together to demonstrate their knowledge and apply it to the types of complex challenges they are likely to face in their future careers," says Karthik Kannan, dean of the Eller College of Management.

This year, the Eller College of Management proudly hosted the event, with support from sponsor Tetakawi. Unlike traditional competitions, the ASBCC intentionally mixes students from the three universities into teams, encouraging collaboration and cross-institutional learning.

The central challenge for this year’s participants was to answer the question: How can Arizona and Sonora build a mutually beneficial cross-border semiconductor industry? Teams presented innovative strategies and comprehensive solutions, showcasing their analytical and problem-solving abilities.

"Bringing together talented students from Eller, W.P. Carey, and W.A. Franke College of Business in this competition exemplifies the power of collaboration, innovation, and experiential learning,” says Sarah Diaz, assistant dean of career and professional development in Eller Undergraduate Programs. “It was inspiring to see the level of preparation, professionalism, and creativity from the students—Arizona's future business leaders are truly impressive."

This collaborative event fosters a spirit of cooperation among the state’s business schools, providing graduate and undergraduate student teams with the opportunity to apply their skills to real-world challenges.
