Master's in Marketing
required internship
After working with our world-renowned faculty and gaining in-depth knowledge about marketing, students will implement everything they learned during a summer internship with a local or globally-owned company.
Internships should be in a position that is marketing-focused and in an area that interests the student. Internship positions will be 20 hours a week and students will work from the beginning of summer to the end. Students will receive course credit for the work they complete during their internship. Completing a summer internship is a mandatory part of this program’s curriculum.
Students are responsible for finding summer internships but the University of Arizona and Eller College of Management will provide you with a lot of help, from resume writing, mock interviews, and networking opportunities.
The Eller College of Management has career coaches who will meet with you one-on-one to help you perfect your job hunting and interviewing skills to land you your dream internship. Career Services also hosts multiple career fairs throughout the academic year that will allow students to meet with recruiters within various industries, and sometimes do on-the-spot interviews!

Benefits and Advantages of an Internship
- Students all have their educational experience in common. What stands out to employers is those students who ALSO have work experiences by the time they graduate. This automatically makes them more marketable; as they may require less training and are assumed to be able to handle more responsibilities. In addition to the specialized skills of your field, transferable skills are generally required at any job, e.g. communication/interpersonal skills, computer proficiency and team work.
- A summer internship allows students in this program to explore different fields in marketing. Thinking of a career in sales? Apply for sales internships to explore if that's the right career field for you, and receive credit towards your master's degree! By the time of graduation, the students have confidence that the Master's Degree in Marketing is the right one for them.
- Many people learn best by being hands on. But everyone can benefit from seeing the things that they have been learning in class, put to action.
- It’s all about who you know. As a student intern, you are surrounded by professionals in the industry that you are seeking access to. It’s more than just about getting a grade, earning credit or making money. This is an opportunity to learn from everyone around you, ask questions and impress them with your eagerness. These people can be your future colleagues or can be the connection to your first job.
- Learn your strengths and weaknesses by creating learning objectives and receiving feedback from your supervisor. This is a unique learning opportunity that you may never have again as a working adult. Embrace the mistakes that you’ll make and the many things that you won’t know. Ask questions, observe and take risks.
- Practice makes perfect. If you’ve learned about a specific technique in the classroom, you’re able to test it out in the world of work. Then, you’ll be much more equipped with the technique.
International Students and Internships
International students must register for internship in order to take Curricular Practical Training (CPT).
International students who wish to take an internship must submit required paperwork to the International Students Services Office (ISS). For deadline and paperwork information, please visit the ISS website for the CPT packet you will be required to submit to ISS.
You must find a faculty member willing to work with you on the internship and sign a department add/drop form. Bring this signed add form to Academic Services for registration (you may not register through UAccess for internship). The vast majority of students take their CPT during the summer months.
As part of the packet ISS requires, you must submit a letter from the department justifying the CPT which requires that you provide the graduate advisor with a copy of the offer letter from the company you will be working for. This letter must contain the name of the company, the position you will hold, the location where you will be working (city and state), and the dates of the internship.
It is up to ISS to approve international students for CPT. Please follow all of their guidelines and regulations.
