About the Competition

At the Eller Suit Up Sales Challenge students will prepare for a 15-minute sales call which they will sell to a business professional acting as a buyer. A panel of sales professionals from sponsoring companies will evaluate students on all aspects of the sales call as well as on students’ communication skills and their ability to look and act in a professional manner.

We will have 100-120 student competitors. All student training for the competition will be conducted by the marketing faculty and senior sales club members.

Based on the scoring rubric in round one, the top three students will move on to the final role play in the afternoon.  These finalist will compete for the top three spots that will be awarded with a plaque and monetary scholarship*.

Sponsor the Suit Up Sales Challenge

The Eller Suit Up Sales Challenge will offer sponsors a targeted, more cost-effective approach to recruiting entry-level sales talent. Every student competitor is passionate about sales as a profession, unlike many students, a sponsor might encounter during a typical campus career fair.  The competitors put themselves on the line and come prepared to show sponsors what they can do.

The timing of the event is perfect for recruiting summer interns or May graduates. Most University Arizona students accept positions with employers in November and December.

The competition is small and highly personalized and takes place in one day.  Unlike other national sales competition sponsors will have interactions with the student competitors several times throughout the day.  Sponsors will get to interact with the students in a buyer’s role, during the role-play feedback sessions, a reverse career fair, and the awards ceremony. The sponsor’s time commitment will also be limited to one day rather than three days like other competitions.

In subsequent years, past competitors who have graduated will likely be coming back to the competitions as buyers and judges since many of them will have secured employment with the event sponsors.  This creates an alumni outreach opportunity.

Sponsors get to view the selling and communication skills of the student competitors and judge during student role plays. Feedback sessions will be held directly after each role-play is completed.

One of the main goals of the Eller Suit Up Sales Challenge will be to create a hospitable environment for both students and sponsors.  Most students will be doing these role plays in front of a sales professional for the first time so we want to make this event a great learning experience.  Sponsors will also have fun giving feedback to students and probably learn more about them than they would in a typical job interview.
