Eller College economic outlook events produced by the Economic and Business Research Center are an Arizona tradition. More than 12,000 people have attended events featuring Center economists in the last five years alone. As concerns about the economy have soared during the pandemic, EBRC has innovated to provide events free of charge to large crowds via ZOOM.  This morning was no exception as 463 people zoomed in for a virtual version of a signature event: Eller's "Breakfast With the Economists." EBRC director George Hammond offered insight in such questions as what will happen to economic recovery when CARES Act funds end? Which sectors of the economy are recovering and which sectors continue to struggle? Are we really seeing labor shortages? How much should we worry about inflation? Dr. Hammond was joined by Derek Lemoine, an associate professor in Eller's Department of Economics, to discuss the impacts of climate change on the behaviors and productivity of labor and the output of different industries. Did you know that there is evidence that financial markets are already pricing the uncertainty generated by a changing climate? Did you know that more government money is spent on programs supporting fossil fuel development than on alternative energy programs?

Answers to these questions and more were discussed at this morning's event. We invite you to view the full video. You can also download the presenters' PowerPoint slides in PDF.
