Internship Spotlight – Taylor Vetter, Raytheon

Taylor Vetter is a Business Administration major set to graduate in December of 2019.  She has recently accepted an internship position with Raytheon Missile Systems Tucson, Arizona and will be working as a Configuration Management Intern for Whole Life Systems Engineering Department.

How did you find this position?

I found this position by going directly to the Raytheon career website.

Tell us about the process of interviewing with this company.

I was first asked to do a phone interview. It lasted about 15 minutes and I was asked very general questions about my education and work experience. That went well, so they invited me to the hiring event here in Tucson. The hiring event was two days of seminars to learn more about the company and to meet the different teams that work at Raytheon. They also allowed you to speak to the department managers, and if the manager thought you would be a good fit for their department, would offer you an interview for the next day. I was offered an interview for the configuration management internship. This interview was a panel interview consisting of two managers from the department. It took about 45 minutes and was fairly challenging with multiple behavioral questions.

What previous experience have you had that you think contributed to your success securing this position?

One of the managers interviewing me had also graduated from Eller and was impressed that my team had won the Eller Case Competition. I also had previous experience as a Lead Business Office Associate in a corporate setting and was able to provide professional examples for the behavioral questions. The interviewing and presentation experience I had from Eller greatly helped as well. I had a strong elevator pitch and was able to speak to an audience confidently.

What are you most looking forward to about your position/company?

At Raytheon, there are multiple opportunities to grow within the company. They do not limit what department/position you are allowed to work in and promote you to continue your education. After the internship, I will be eligible to do a co-op with Raytheon meaning I can work from home while I finish my last semester at Eller, and then I will be able to work full time in January of 2020. Because of this, I hope to stay with Raytheon long term and move up to a management position.

Any word of advice you could give to your fellow Eller Students?

My word of advice to my fellow Eller students is to work hard on your personal brand. By combining your knowledge gained from classes, strong communication skills, and professional image, you will be able to stand out from the crowd to future employers.
