Collegiate Ethics Case Competition (CECC)

The Collegiate Ethics Case Competition brings students together from around the world, challenging their moral reasoning in thought-provoking team competition. Faced with a real-world business ethics case, students analyze the case and present to a panel of judges.

Get ready for the 22nd annual International Collegiate Ethics Case Competition! Once again, we're bringing together schools from across the globe for a dynamic event that promises to challenge your moral reasoning and enhance your understanding of business ethics.

Center for Leadership Ethics  will host the 22nd Annual International Collegiate Ethics Case Competition.

October 10-11, 2024

University of Arizona Campus

Eller College of Management

McClelland Hall, Tucson, Arizona

In this competition, student teams from 25 colleges and universities will come together to collaboratively analyze, present, and respond to a thought-provoking business ethics case. This case is carefully crafted to mirror the ethical dilemmas professionals may encounter in their future careers, making it a valuable learning experience for all participants. The 22nd Annual Undergraduate Collegiate Ethics Case Competition will be held in-person at McClelland Hall in Tucson, Arizona.

Registration Process and Competition Details: 

  1. Use the Eventbrite system to pay the entry fee and register for the competition https://www.eventbrite.com/e/22nd-annual-collegiate-ethics-case-competition-registration-885190377247?aff=oddtdtcreator
  2. July/August registered teams will be contacted via email to provide names, contact information for each individual participant, advisor
  3. September 23, 2024 participating teams will receive the ethics case and how to enter an optional essay competition, the Stephanie Chance "Bright Line" Award
  4. Monday, October 7, 2024. 10:00 a.m. Deadline to submit the executive summary (required), PowerPoint/Presi presentation (required) and Bright Line essay (optional).
  5. Thursday, October 10, 2024  - ROUND I -6:00 p.m.
  6. Friday, October 11, 2024 ROUND II- 9:00 a.m.
  7. Friday, October 11, 2024 - FINAL -ROUND - 2:00 p.m.

If there is room for additional teams, you will automatically be notified and asked to pay registration fee. Registration team payment is one advisor and two student participants. Additional advisors and student observers will cost $75/person.

Welcome Dinner

The welcome dinner will take place on Thursday, October 10 from 4:00-5:45 p.m. and will take place in the Estes Atrium at the Eller College of Management. Check-in will begin at 3:30 p.m. 

Round One

Teams will be divided into five brackets with five teams per bracket. Round one will take place on Thursday, October 12, 2024 after the welcome event. A series of pre-determined questions will be posed by the panel of judges. This Q&A portion will last ten minutes.

7:00-7:10 p.m. Group 5

Round Two

Round two will take place on the morning of Friday, October 11, 2024. Each team will be asked to give a 20 minute presentation followed by time for 5 minutes of clarifying questions from the judges.

1:00 p.m. - Forwarding teams announced in Berger Auditorium

Final Round

The final round will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024. For the final round, finalists' presentations are not to exceed ten minutes and will be followed by up to five minutes of questions from the entire panel of judges. 

The final round will be livestreamed via YouTube.

We are excited to show visiting teams a little bit of Southern Arizona. This year we will be traveling to Biosphere 2 "the world's largest controlled environment dedicated to understanding the impact of climate change. https://biosphere2.org/

Judges will utilize the following criteria in evaluating teams throughout the competition:

  • Delivery
  • Depth of analysis
  • Persuasiveness
  • Creativity
  • Recommendations that are both ethical and practical in a business context
  • Responses to questions
