Eller Hosts Case Competition for Arizona Community College Students
Nine teams from seven Arizona community colleges converged at the Eller College in October for a “territorial cup”-style case competition.
In addition to testing their analytic and presentation skills, the competition challenged the students to think critically about their options for completing bachelor’s degrees. The case asked them to function as consultants assigned to benchmark online bachelor in business programs available to themselves and their peers, and use a SWOT analysis to drive their recommendations to the Eller College, which is considering such a program.
The students reviewed goals set by the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR), which governs Arizona’s three state universities. ABOR’s 2020 Vision has set aggressive growth in community college transfer students.
The team from Glendale Community College took the top prize. “I liked being able to see the other presentations and the various approaches used by the different teams,” one team member reported. “I thought all the teams made good points for consideration.”
Three teams from Pima Community College participated. “I enjoyed everything about the competition,” one said. “The best part was the pressure that came with the task, because I felt what's like to be an Eller College student. To work with students who I had never met was challenging, but it was a great experience for me.”
