Eller has partnered with Dream Volunteers for an alternative spring break opportunity to volunteer abroad.

Antigua, Guatemala

Spring Break 2025 (March 8-15)

Guatemala Overview

Guatemala is one of the largest and most culturally rich countries in Central America. It boasts volcanoes, thick tropical forests, outstanding Mayan ruins that stretch out and above the surrounding forest canopy and beautiful lakes. It is bursting with exotic fauna, flora and wildlife.

The weather varies greatly from season to season. In the dry season, running from November to May, days are sunny and warm with mild evenings. The average temperature runs in the 70s, with highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s. The rainy season runs from May to October and typically sees sunny mornings and wet afternoons with cloudy evenings.

Program Details

Dates: Spring Break 2025 (March 8-15)

The Eller College partners with Dream Volunteers for this program. Dream Volunteers is recommending all participants to be vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to travel.

The volunteer projects will focus on children, school improvement and/or the environment. Sample projects include, but are not limited to: classroom and library construction, beautification of elementary schools, reforestation and development of recycling centers and various environmental awareness projects. On past programs, cultural activities have included activities like dancing, cooking lessons, soccer matches, or excursions to famous sights of Guatemala.

Accommodations and Meals

The group will be staying together in a guest house in Antigua run by a local family. Volunteers will commute daily to projects and activities in Vuelta Grande or El Hato. Students will share a room with at least one other student and sleep in twin or bunk beds. Some rooms have private bathrooms, and others will use a common bathroom just down the hallway. Most of your meals are included in the price of the trip. The meals will range from typical Guatemalan dishes with meat, veggies, rice, black beans and tortillas to American-style food. Special arrangements can be made for vegetarians or those with restricted diets.
