Undergraduate Online Sports Management Minor and Certificate
The Sports Management minor is a customized 18-unit program available only to non-BSBA Students. The Sports Management minor's flexible curriculum allows for students to take courses in a sequence and pace that fits their schedule.
The Sports Management certificate is a structured 9-unit program available only to Eller students. Eller students cannot complete a major and minor through our college; certificates are available instead. Eller Sports Management certificate students must choose THREE electives from MGMT 351, MGMT 357, MGMT 359 or MKTG 355.
The Sports Management / Sports and Society Concentration is customized concentration for students completing the Bachelors of General Studies (BGS) degree program.
Curriculum
Lower Division Foundation (6 units)
Description: Concepts involved in accounting for assets, liabilities and owners' equity; financial statements.
Offered: fall, spring, and summer - 1st 7-week session
Description: National and international economic issues. An introduction to economic analysis.
Prerequisite(s): two courses from Tier One, Individuals and Societies (INDV 101, 102, 103, 104).
Offered: fall, spring, and summer - 1st 7-week session
Upper Division (12 units - CHOOSE FOUR)
Description: This course is intended to provide an overview of organizational behavior, effective management skills, law and ethics in the workplace and human relations. This course cannot be used towards any business major degree.
Note: Sports Management Minor & BGS students Only; Course cannot be used as an elective for the Sports Management Certificate.
Offered: Summer only - 2nd 7-week session
Description: This course covers issues related to the administrative tasks of planning, managing, budgeting and operating various types of sports programs. Topics covered include the administration and planning of high school, college and professional sports programs and the use of budgeting as a management tool. The course will also include a discussion of the financial, legal and safety issues relevant to operating sports facilities.

Offered: fall only - 2nd 7-week session
Description: This course is designed to teach students about management principles in sports organizations, help students learn about the lifecycle of elite athletes and to help students navigate the lifecycle in a successful manner.

Description: Special Topics in Sports Management will examine various activities taking place in the field of sports management. Currently, two classes are offered: International Sports Management and Sports Public Relations and Promotion Management.
Prerequisites: ECON 200 and ACCT 200 (or ACCT 250)
Offered: fall only - 1st 7-week session
Description: This course is designed to develop a thorough understanding of sport marketing principles and their application to collegiate athletics and professional sports. Students will learn about multi-media partners and see how marketing affects other areas of an athletic enterprise. Students will understand marketing from the perspective of managing a marketing program.

Declaring Sports Management Minor/Certificate and Registration
The Sports Management Minor & BGS Concentration is open to all non-BSBA students, and the Sports Management Certificate is open to all Eller students in Arizona Online. To be approved for course registration students must sign up below. Once the Sports Management minor/certificate/concentration is declared then a student will be eligible to register themselves through the UAccess Student Center.
Policies
- Sports Management courses CAN be used as a part of the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree program.
- Eller does not permit double use of courses in their majors with majors or minors outside of the College, nor double use of courses in their minors with majors outside of the College. Unique units are required for the student’s major and minor.
- Sport Management Minor requires six three-unit courses (18 units total). A minimum of nine units must be completed in residence, nine units must be upper division, and any transfer work must be approved through the Eller College Undergraduate Programs Office.
- Students must also have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 within the minor.
