Hannah Hudson '24 BSBA (Business Management) is a Meetings & Special Events Manager at The Ritz-Carlton, Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles, California. This spotlight is an update from Hannah's internship post in 2022: Hannah's Internship Spotlight

Career Path Updates: After graduation, I joined Marriott International through the Voyage Global Leadership Development Program as an Event Planning Voyager at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Springs, California. The program provided hands-on leadership experience across multiple operational areas and exposure to luxury hospitality. After completing the program, I transitioned into my current role as a Meetings & Special Events Manager with The Ritz-Carlton, where I now work directly with clients to plan and execute meetings, conferences, weddings and other special events. Now that I am based in Los Angeles, I’ve also been enjoying the opportunity to explore more live events in the area and continue expanding my interest in the broader events industry.

Current Role Insight: In my current role, I manage a portfolio of corporate and social events from initial planning through execution. This includes coordinating logistics with internal departments, serving as the primary planning contact, and ensuring each event aligns with the unique vision of each client. One of the most rewarding parts is seeing an event come together after months of planning and knowing that the guest experience reflects the care and teamwork behind it.

Reflections on the Eller Experience: My experience at Eller helped build a strong foundation in professionalism, teamwork, and leadership. In addition to my experience at Eller, my involvement in the University of Arizona community, especially with the Wildcat Events Board, absolutely prepared me for the collaborative and fast-paced environment of events and hospitality. One of my favorite memories from my time at the University of Arizona was serving as Concerts Director for the Wildcat Events Board and bringing back the Bear Down Music Festival after COVID. Leading the planning and execution of a large-scale campus event was an incredibly rewarding experience and gave me the opportunity to create something memorable for the entire university community. It was a moment that really solidified my passion for live events and large-scale event planning.

Advice to Your Past Self? And/or to current students?
Say yes and put yourself out there! Some of the most valuable experiences during my time at the University of Arizona, and beyond, have come from trying new things. Event Planning is an industry where hands-on experience and relationships matter, so staying curious and willing to learn makes a big difference. If you’re eager to learn, kind to others, and genuinely excited to be there, you’ll go far. Technical skills and systems can always be taught, but self-confidence and a positive outlook are what truly make someone stand out. Don’t waste the precious time you have at the University of Arizona and the Eller College of Management, the opportunities, connections, and experiences available to you are invaluable.
