Areas of Expertise
Hong Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems at the University of Arizona. She earned her PhD in Information Systems from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2025. Hong specializes in the intersection of Fintech platforms and AI. Her research focuses on key issues in two-sided Fintech platforms, including platform growth and competing strategies, trading efficiency, and fusing domain knowledge with transaction data in AI models to enhance decision-making outcomes. She is also conducting ongoing research in the healthcare domain, examining systematic decision-making errors by physicians and issues related to opioid addiction among homeless people. In her research, she extensively develops and applies methodologies such as machine learning and deep learning (including GenAI approaches), combined with econometrics. Hong’s work is under advanced revision in Management Science and MIS Quarterly, and she has presented her research at various leading IS conferences. Her dissertation was recognized as a Best Dissertation Award finalist at WITS 2024, and her research has received multiple best paper runner-up or finalist awards at CIST, WITS, the Boston Platform Strategy Symposium, and WeB. In 2024, she was honored as the UT Dallas JSOM Ph.D. Student of the Year.
