University of Arizona Executive of the Year Announced

The University of Arizona Eller College of Management has announced the recipient of its 2026 Executive of the Year award. Michelle Gass, president, CEO and board of directors’ member of Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co.), will be presented with the award at a luncheon held in her honor on Friday, March 27, 2026.

“We are honored to recognize Michelle Gass as this year’s recipient. Under her leadership as CEO, Levi Strauss & Co. continues to exemplify what it means to be a trusted and admired brand — one that is respected both nationally and globally by its customers and employees alike,” says Karthik Kannan, dean and Halle Chair in Leadership of the Eller College. “Their signature Levi’s brand is truly iconic, and their deep commitment to sustainability, social responsibility and workplace culture sets a standard for others to follow. Michelle joins a distinguished list of past honorees from some of the nation’s most recognized companies, including Macy’s, Starbucks, FedEx, Toyota and Deloitte.”

Gass joined LS&Co. in 2023 as the company’s president and in January 2024, the board appointed her CEO. Gass is credited for spearheading the transformation of the company into a best-in-class, DTC-first denim lifestyle retailer that leverages the brand’s iconic heritage and long-held place at the center of culture to achieve sustainable growth for the years to come.

Gass has 35 years of experience in the retail and consumer goods industries. Prior to joining LS&Co., she served as CEO of Kohl’s for five years, where she led the company’s evolution into a leading omnichannel retailer by building out a multibillion-dollar ecommerce business, establishing innovative brand collaborations including partnerships with Sephora and Amazon, and introducing a best-in-class loyalty program.

The University of Arizona Executive of the Year Award was established in 1983 by the Eller College of Management to honor individuals who exemplify executive qualities in private enterprise and public service. Furthermore, this award recognizes executives whose leadership has not only driven their organization to new heights but has also set a remarkable example in their industry.
